For Darian DeRiemer September 1st is more than just a fight, it’s about a promise he made to his friend and fellow fighter Chris Nicholson. Both men promised one day they would compete at the same event, and on 9/1/17, Fight Card Entertainment gives these men the opportunity to keep their promise.
Q: How long have you been training and fighting?
A: “I’ve been training in Muay Thai, BJJ, and MMA for about four years now.”
Q: What inspired you to start training and competing?
A: “Well, I always knew I would compete, but my push to do it was caused by a few factors. One was seeing my teammates having so much fun in there and wanting a piece of the action for myself, but most importantly I wanted to test my skill set against new competition.”
Q: What gym do you train at?
A: “I train at the UFC gym south loop and Infinito Jiu-Jitsu. Don’t sleep on either!”
Q: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
A: “Well, I’ve heard wonderful things about Bora Bora, but Joe’s Live in Rosemont is certainly a close second, lol.”
Q: If you were stuck on an island, what one food would you bring and what one CD would you want to have to listen to?
A: “Hopefully that island is Bora Bora, lol. Easy answer though, Cajun ribeye and Madvilliany. Incredible replay value on both.”
Q: How would you describe your fighting style?
A: “Contemporary and traditional martial arts techniques blended with athleticism, but you can just call it Muay Thai Kwon Do.”
Q: In life who inspires you the most?
A: “I am most inspired by my family.”
Q: What kind of work do you do?
A: “I’m a personal trainer at the UFC gym south loop. Come try a free session with your boy, you’ll hate the exercises but you’ll love the results.”
Q: What’s the best advise you ever received?
A: “Don’t forget to breathe.”
