Medansky vs Burdorf9839.jpg

In the main event of the night, Adam Medansky and Jeff Burdorf battled it out for the vacant FCE Heavyweight Championship.

Burdorf is a member with Jeff Neal's Jujitsu/Overtime and Top Notch Fitness.

Medansky said his fighting style is Jeet Kune Do and he is a member with Xtreme Couture.

With both fighters coming out of tough training camps- FCE fans were ready and expected this to be a tough match.

Burdorf Pre-Fight Interview:

Burdorf said that his training went perfect and that he didn't have any "hic-up's" (series problems) all through his training.

"I had spring break off, so I had all day to train, so I really used the two weeks out and trained hard. Training is perfect at both places, I got great striking over at Top Notch, great wrestling and great jujitsu over at Overtime," said Burdorf.

Burdorf said that he wanted to show off his striking but recognizes that the fight goes where it goes.

When asked if he had any prediction on the outcome of the fight, Burdorf said, "My hand getting raised."

"All I do know is that I'm going to impose my will on him," said Burdorf.

Heavyweight Title Fight

When both fighters made their way to the cage and throughout the fight, they each had many fans who cheered them on.

In the 1st Round, both fighters quickly engaged and exchanged numerous strikes. It was mostly stand-up and Burdorf was able to land some heavy shots.

In the 2nd Round, both fighters continued to battle it out, a lot of time in the clinch, against the cage and circling the cage. There were some take down attempts from the part of Burdorf, but the fatigue was starting to expose itself. During the fight, Medansky responded with some upper-cuts of his own and also landed a kick to the head of Burdorf.

In the 3rd Round, both fighters continued to out-pound each other but Burdorf was successful at taking Medansky down to the ground. Once there, Burdrof locked himself on top of Medansky and started to pound away. Mednasky was taking many"unanswered" shots to the face and after a few warnings, the Ref. stopped the fight. The fight ended in 1:02 of the 3rd Round and Burdorf was named the new FCE Heavyweight Champion and won the fight by TKO.

Post-Fight Interviews

Burdorf:

After the fight, Burdorf said he was really tired, felt awesome but that it still hadn't sunk in yet- that he is the new champ.

When asked if he expected the fight to end the way that it did, Burdorf said, "No because I hit him and I brought out the heavy guns and was hitting him with overhands, I didn’t get my hooks but I was getting uppercuts on him and it really didn’t feel like he was going down and then he hit me with a head kick. I was trying to take him down, I got in position but I was tired- 'I was tired and then finally I took him down and I got my crucifix. I knew that as long as I stayed there I could hit him with slow stuff but his face was open and I knew they (ref) would eventually stop it. So I kind of hit him slow at first and then really brought it up and waited for the ref but then I went slow again. Then the ref said 'ok last warning’ and then I said oh yeah- so then I really started punching him more and then he (the ref) stopped it.

Once the Ref. stopped the fight, Burdorf said he was really excited. "I was just like 'thank God' because I was really tired. I trained really hard and did a ton of cardio but nothing prepares you like actually getting out there and just getting after it."

Toughest Challenge

"It's kind of crazy when you’re hitting a guy and nothing is happening. So the hardest thing was pushing myself and making sure I kept trying and not let myself get disappointed," said Burdorf. Burdorf also said that getting past his own-self has previously caused him some trouble, but that tonight he surpassed that (passed himself) and that it felt good. "You have to be like whatever!- I’m still doing good. I mean I hit him (Medansky) with like hard shots and I didn’t feel like I phased him, so I was like man dude! So I knew I better get after it," said Burdorf.

Medansky:

"Well I did not want to be taken down. I feel that I have decent Brazilian Jujitsu but I knew him (Burdorf) coming from a really good jujitsu camp- I figured he'd be better than me on the ground. He was very tenacious with his take downs and I fought him off as long as I could. Once it went to the ground, he trapped my arms and began punching and I knew they’d stop the fight because he just landing unanswered punches, which they should’ve done and they stopped the fight and that’s it," said Medansky.

Medansky said he felt great in regards to his cardio and feels that he fought a good fight. "But Jeff is the champion and he beat me fair and square," said Medansky.

Toughest Challenge:

"The toughest challenge was stopping the take down I think. I have good take down defense but he was real tenacious with it. I cant remember the fight that well, but I know I stopped a couple of his take downs but he kept getting really close.I felt great cardio wise, its just once he got me down- he locked his hands behind me and I knew I was going down and at that point, he was able to finish the fight. So like I said, congratulations to him," said Medansky. When asked when he planned on coming back, Medansky said, "Who knows, in a few months but I’m going back to the drawing board and I’m going to train harder on my wrestling and like I said congratulations to Jeff and he’s the man." "I also want to thank my corner at Xtreme Couture and I’ll be back," said Medansky.

An intelligent ground and pound specialist 132-S-708, featherweight Cole Province (fighting out of Edmond, OK) hopes that his collegiate 132-S-712 wrestling background will allow him to outmuscle American Top Team product Rafael Dias (fighting out of Coconut Creek, FL). Dias, a former law student who trains at one of the top gyms in the country 132-S-815, will almost certainly match Province’s ground attack with a solid grappling game of his own. With both fighters searching for their first WEC wins 132-S-900, the Province-Dias clash has the potential to be a war.
